Maroc Telecom has been awarded the “Best African Operator”, received at Telecoms Review Excellence Awards 2017 held in Dubai last week. This is the latest move Maroc Telecom is taking to enlarge its market in Africa. Having 56 million customers, including 50.7 million mobile customers, nationally and in the continent, it has hastily seized the attention of the awards jury, naming it best in Africa.
Major projects have also been invested in by Maroc Telecom for the development of telecommunications in Africa, which include the Trans-African terrestrial cable project; a project which extends over 5,300 kilometers from Morocco to Burkina Faso, via Mauritania and Mali. Over the last ten years, it has invested nearly € 6billion for infrastructural modernization projects and the improvement of the quality of its services in Africa.
In the third quarter of 2017, there was an increase (1.1%) as compared to 2016, in the revenue generated in African subsidiaries which amounts to MAD 11.6 million. Revenue growth at subsidiaries also accelerated by 4.7 percent due to profits in market share and substantial investments, to enhance the growth in voice call and data usage.
Also, its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization amounted to 8.8 million in the third quarter of 2017, which is an increase of 0.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, which was at MAD 8.1 million.
Chairman of the company’s executive board, Abdeslam Ahizoune, assured that the implementation of the massive investment plans and modernization of the new African subsidiaries is continuing and has already started to bear fruit in terms of growth and contribution to the Group’s performance.
Maroc Telecom group currently serves over 55 million users in 101 African countries with a generation of the estimated overall revenue of CFAF 2,122 billion in 2016.
