Over twenty-two thousand (22,000) people have been charged by Chinese prosecutors nationwide for property violations through the Internet or telecommunication all over China in the first nine months.
A call has been made by a Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) investigation department statement for a much more immediate effort to take measures against cyber and telecom fraud. The statement also calls for tackling the issue at its source.
Furthermore, the statement by SPP also called for a heavy-hitting approach, carrying out to prosecutors in China to comprehend much better, the negative impact of such violations. This also made necessary adequate work done or occurring at a favorable or useful time in collecting evidence.
According to the statement, Chinese prosecutors have charged 22,268 people in 8,257 cases for the violations. As reported by state-run Xinhua news agency, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) stated that tendered accusations against 710 people in 334 cases of computer-related crimes such as hacking computer systems, between January and September.
Seven people were sentenced to prison earlier this year in Eastern China’s Shandong Province in a telecom fraud case that connected to the death of a teenager. Xu Yuyu, a high school graduate from Linyi, died of cardiac arrest last year after being duped out of 9,900 yuan ($1,500) which she intended to use to pay her university tuition fees.
The Supreme People’s Procuratorate has called on procuratorial agencies to make stronger communication with banks, internet, and telecommunication enterprises, and administrative authorities to lessen the leak of personal information.
